 Seeds available for UK growers

Seed Catalogue - image.png

Landsorten is a Danish, farmer-based organisation that specialises in seeds designed to work with organic and low-input farming systems.

Most of Landsorten's varieties are bred organically by Agrologica. Others are heritage varieties no longer in commercial production or listed in EU's catalogue of approved varieties.

The LASN initiative means that UK growers now have greater acess to the range of seeds that Landsorten have to offer, without incurring the costs and paperwork that have previously been involved with importing seed in from Denmark

Mariagertoba

Mariagertoba is a hard red spring wheat population known for its superior baking qulity. It has a high gluten index and resistance to common bunt. As such, it resembles the Canadian hard red spring, marketed as Manitoba flour. Monocultures often perform well under optimal growing conditions, but they lack ressilience when grown in other environments. Populations are much more adaptive to fluctuations and unpredictable environmental conditions, including nutrients supplies or changes in climate or pathogens. Therefore, populations are better suited for organic farming that to higher degree rely on local conditions.

  • Spring Wheat

  • Population (Heterogeneous) - 15 varieties

  • Good milling potential

  • High Gluten Strength

  • Good protein content

Flour Power

Flour Power is a population particular developed to give a high protein and gluten content. The population is well suited as a replacement for spring wheat or imported high gluten content wheat as a mixing partner to elevate the quality of your standard flour. Flour Power has good agronomic traits and is bunt resistant. Flour Power is composed of tall, healthy plants that provide strong weed competition, high straw yield and sublime baking quality. The yield potential is slightly lower than that of ordinary winter wheat, but the probability of achieving sufficient protein content for bread is significantly increased – even with reduced fertiliser application.

  • Population (Heterogeneous)

  • Good milling potential

  • Strong weed competition

  • High straw yield

Viola (purple wheat)

This purple winter wheat is a mixture of several breeding lines with purple grains. The bran layer of the grains has a high content of anthocyanin, a powerful antioxidant that is also found in elderberries and blueberries. This can contribute to prevention of cancer, inflammations and other human diseases.

Pop Viola has good agronomic traits and a strong ability to compete with weeds.

  • Winter Wheat

  • Good gluten strength

  • Good protein content

  • Early ripening

Borris Rug

Borris Rug is the oldest Danish rye variety and was bred at Borris Research Station in 1949 based on an old Danish rye variety. The variety was specially developed as bread rye for poor soils, but can also be grown on better soil.

The variety is suitable for both bread baking and as food grain and is also used for whiskey production.

  • Winter Rye

  • Good flavour characteristics

  • Popular variety for distilling
